Cape Town Dams Overflowing

Francois Lebrun • 20 October 2020

Cape Town celebrates as dams reach 100% capacity and overflow 2 years after devastating drought. ⠀
⠀
South Africa's "Mother City" has had a wonderfully wet rainy season, and for the first time since 2014 the city's dams have reached full capacity. This just 2 years after the city battled the worst drought it had experienced in decades. ⠀
⠀
Extensive water-saving measures have played a huge role, and locals have been urged to not rest on their laurels. “Climate change studies undertaken by the City indicate that droughts such as the one we have experienced will occur more often and last longer,” says Water and Waste representative Xanthea Limberg. ⠀
⠀
The good news comes just days after South Africa reopened its international borders following lockdown, wlecoming its first international visitors to the country in nearly 6 months. ⠀
