OMICROM

Francois Lebrun • 27 November 2021

Who could have imagined that South Africa would make headline Covid-19 news again, this time with another variant dubbed omicrom. While we understand the concern you may have about how this could impact your travel plans to the region, now is the time for facts not fear.

Here's what we know right now: A new variant has been identified by South Africa's research experts. As a "precaution" the UK placed a temporary ban from midday Friday until 4am Sunday. Other countries have placed similar temporary bans in place. We don't know if this ban will be extended. Naturally we hope not, especially since the UK's Chief Medical Officer says the new variant is "less worrying than Delta" while Sir John Bell, one of the UK Government's most senior advisers, said the new variant may end up causing no more than "runny noses and headaches" in those who have been vaccinated.

If there is one thing we have learned since the whole Covid epidemic, it is that life by its very nature is chocabloc with uncertainties. That's why we firmly believe in Carpe Diem as our life motto, seize the day, make today matter. We will continue to keep our finger on the pulse to update our guests currently in SA and arriving soon, and we will also continue to focus on facts, not sensational headlines.
